2024 – 2025 Hunting and Fishing License Update! NYS DEC licenses will be transitioning to regular paper this season. Licenses can be purchased online or in the Town Clerk’s office during open office hours.

Town Clerk Office Closures/Changes

Town Clerk’s Office CLOSED for the Holiday July 4th & July 5th. We will reopen Tuesday, July 9th, at 10:00AM.

Town Clerk Office Hours:

  • Mondays: CLOSED
  • Tuesdays 10:00am-1:00pm (Deputy Town Clerk hours)
  • Wednesdays 5:30pm-8:00pm
  • Thursdays 5:30pm-8:00pm
  • Fridays 9:00am-11:00am (Deputy Town Clerk hours)

Appointments are still be available upon request please reach out to the Town Clerk if you would like to request an appointment. Appointments are no required during open office hours.

We will continue to serve those over email/mail as well, if you prefer to conduct business over email please email the Town Clerk at townclerk@townofstephentown.org or by mail at 26 Grange Hall Road, Stephentown, NY 12168. (The Town Clerk has access to email outside of office hours, please feel free to email anytime).

Deputy Town Clerk Hours (Town Clerk unavailable at this time)

  • Tuesday 10 am – 1 pm
  • Friday 9 am – 11 am

PLEASE do not call the Town Clerk’s Office regarding Court Issues (i.e. to pay a fine, traffic tickets, small claims, evictions). You must go through the Justice Court to get these issues resolved. 

Dog License Renewal are NOW available ONLINE

Click Here to RENEW your Dog License – As  a reminder if your pup’s rabies is expired you will need to provide proof to the Town Clerk’s Office in order to have access to renew online in the future.

To Apply by mail print out the Dog-License-Application and mail it into the Town Clerk with payment and proof of rabies vaccination (proof of spay/neuter if applicable).

  • Registrar/Vital Records (Birth, Death, Marriage)
    • Vital Records from 1847 to present (some gaps throughout)
    • Copies $0.25/copy

Credit Card services are available at the Town Clerk’s Office for the above listed services. Please note that there is a service fee of $1.75 or 2.45% (whichever is higher) to use this service.

There are no fax services located at this office. Our Town Library does offer faxing services.

For Notary Services please visit the Court Clerk, the Assessor, a Lawyer, or a Bank.

  • From Albany: I-90 to Exit 8 – Route 43 East to Stephentown – second right on Grange Hall Road
  • From Massachusetts: Route 20 East to Route 22 North at New Lebanon to Stephentown – Route 43 at red light turn left to Grange Hall Road
  • From Vermont: Route 22 South to Stephentown – turn right to Route 43 – to Grange Hall Road
